- Duke Ellington is considered to be one of America's great jazz composers. He studied piano at an early age and later moved to New York with the Washingtonians. His foreign engagements became increasingly frequent and successful in his later years, and he directed his band until his death in 1974. He received numerous awards and honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1969).
- Jerry Valburn (b. Dec. 19, 1925, Plainview, N.Y. - d. March 26, 2010, Deerfield Beach, Fl.) was a record producer, jazz archivist, and audio engineer. He collected recordings, sheet music, photographs, promotional materials, programs, newspaper clippings, and other materials related to Duke Ellington. Valburn owned, co-owned and/or ran labels and companies like Marlor Productions, Jazz Archives, Aviva Records, Everybodys, Meritt Record Society, Blu-Disc (2), D.E.T.S., Up-To-Date Records and was involved also with Rosetta Records.
