Summary
- Collection of field recordings of Navajo Creation and Nightway songs, originally recorded by George Herzog and Harry Hoijer in 1929. The first 110 cylinders in the series are songs by Klah, who was recorded in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, by George Herzog, in September 1929. The cylinders were received by exchange from the Mary C. Wheelwright Museum in 1972. Cylinders identified as 110b through 549 are songs from the Creation series recorded by Herzog and Harry Hoijer; the remainder are songs of the Navajo Nightway. In addition to their numerical sequence, many of the cylinders are incised with the numbers of the songs contained in the recording. The original cylinders were sent to Berlin for copying in the 1930s; these cylinders constitute some of the copies made there. The cylinders were received by exchange from the Mary C. Wheelwright Museum in 1972.
